CoAdapt team

The CoAdapt project is implemented by a consortium of Polish and Norwegian researchers from universities and scientific institutes, including: Warsaw University of Life Sciences, Western Norway Research Institute, University of Warsaw, Oslo Metropolitan University. The team also includes scientists from the Institute of Geography and Spatial Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences, the Warsaw University of Technology, and the University of Gdańsk. We cooperate closely with the capital city of Warsaw, where we test the solutions developed in the project.

Agata Cieszewska

Researcher, Department of Landscape Architecture, Warsaw University of Life Sciences

She’s a landscape ecologist and environmental planner. Agata is an associate professor at the Department of Landscape Architecture, Warsaw University of Life Sciences – SGGW. She was a Kosciuszko Foundation scholar at the Arizona State University. She was Fulbright Senior Scholar at the University of Texas. Her main topics of interests are environmental planning with particular emphasis on green infrastructure, green belts and adaptation of urban space to the climate change. She used to work on various environmental and planning projects related to Warsaw and other cities in Poland as well as nature protection plans for regional and national parks. Agata’s experience in environmental planning requires the cooperation of many specialists and this interdisciplinary approach is considered the most creative. Her practice of participating in international projects, as well as practical professional experience and moderating of green infrastructure workshop, can support solving research problems, not only from the theoretical but also used point of view. Agata is a leader of Norwegian Grant IdeaLab – Co-Adapt ‘Communities for Climate Change Action’.

Mari Hanssen Korsbrekke PhD

Senior Assistant at Western Norway Research Institute

Starszy pracownik naukowy na WNRI, doktor w zakresie antropologii społecznej. Mari has experience in research into the long-term effects of crises and disasters, on sustainable development in social movements, and is currently involved in several projects to co-create adaptation activities to climate change. Mari is the leader of the WP1 work package.

Assistant professor in the Department of Urban Geography and Spatial Planning at the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies

She’s a landscape architect, doctor of technical sciences in the discipline of Architecture and Urban Planning, assistant professor in the Department of Urban Geography and Spatial Planning at the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies, University of Warsaw. She is interested in using modern forms of greenery management, which are an element of urban revitalization, adaptation of urban spaces to climate change, creating sustainable, resident- friendly cities. Agnieszka is the leader of the WP5 and WP6 tasks.

Hanne Cecilie Geirbo Prof.

Department of Computer Science at the Oslo Metropolitan University

She works at the Department of Computer Science at the Oslo Metropolitan University. She holds a master degree in social anthropology and a doctorate in information sciences; her research interests span a range of issues related to technology and society. She has experience in interdisciplinary research on solar energy use by local communities, the role of civil society in urban planning, and urban design. She previously worked in the telecommunications industry and in international development. Hanne Cecilie is the leader of the WP2 task.

Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization Polish Academy of Sciences and head of Climate Research Department.

Geographer, climatologist (habilitated doctor of Earth Sciences in the field of geography). She’s an associate professor at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Organization Polish Academy of Sciences and head of Climate Research Department. She is climatologist with special interest in the bioclimatology (impact of weather and climate on human), local climate (especially of health resorts) and city climate. Since many years she supervises the air temperature and humidity monitoring network in Warsaw’ agglomeration and analyses urban heat island in relation to the intensity of development and ratio of biological vital areas. She conducts studies in the parks and residential areas, also within projects.

Assistant professor in the Department of Landscape Architecture, Institute of Environmental Engineering, Warsaw University of Life Sciences. She’s a landscape architect. Her research interests revolve around applications of green infrastructure and ecosystem services concepts in urban climate change adaptation, and the use of new information and communication technologies (ICT) in public participation, planning and management of green urban infrastructure.

Assistant professor at the Warsaw University of Life Sciences (SGGW) – Department of Landscape Architecture

His main research interests are focused on contemporary geomorphological processes and the effects of anthropopression in areas of high environmental value. In direct relation to landscape architecture, he is interested in environmental considerations of land use planning and performing environmental pre-decisional analysis during design. He particularly values the practical applicability of scientific environmental data.

Department of Animal Environmental Biology, Institute of Animal Sciences, Warsaw University of Life Sciences.

His scientific and didactic work deals with animal biology and ecology, with particular emphasis on herpetology. He has a broad interest in conservation issues. In the project, its role is to raise awareness and remind that by shaping the landscape around us – we create or destroy the wildlife habitat.

Professor at the University of Gdansk, for more than 30 years a comprehensive physical geographer and landscape ecologist, currently representing socio-economic geography and spatial management. Head of the Department of Landscape and Environmental Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Gdansk. A specialist in landscape conservation and development and natural conditions of spatial development. He has worked for many years on sustainability parameterization and environmental management, including strategic environmental assessments and landscape park protection. In recent years, he has been dealing with greenhouse gas emissions in open spaces and the mitigation of associated environmental changes.

Assistant professor at the Department of Urban Geography and Spatial Planning at the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies of the University of Warsaw

Socio-economic geographer, PhD in Geosciences, Assistant Professor at the Department of Urban Geography and Spatial Planning, at the Faculty of Geography and Regional Studies of the University of Warsaw. She is interested in the functioning, development and planning of cities, as well as the impact of spatial development on the quality of life. She pays particular attention to the functioning of new and old housing estates in cities.

Architect, PhD student at the Faculty of Architecture of the Warsaw University of Technology. Her scientific interests concern the quality of life in the built environment, in particular the influence of architecture and urban design on users’ health and well-being. She conducts research in the field of people-oriented underground space design.

PhD student at the Doctoral School of Humanities at the University of Warsaw

PhD candidate at the Doctoral School of Humanities at the University of Warsaw and in the “Transformations in European Societies” program at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich, a graduate of the “Artes Liberales” Faculty at the University of Warsaw and the Faculty of Fine Arts at Goldsmiths. In the framework of partial studies scholarships, she studied at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and the University of British Columbia. Her research interests include the space, culture and history of socialism and post-socialism. She is interested in the issues of the environment, skills, knowledge, materials as well as utopia, nostalgia and simulation. In her doctoral project, she studies the gardening practices and the culture of dwelling in the allotment gardens in Nowa Huta.

climat changes.

Master in Renewable Energy from the Western Norway Research Institute She is currently carrying out several research projects on adaptation to climate change and the resulting threats. One of them (UNCHAIN) deals with the development and use of the chain of influence method determining the degree of stakeholder involvement in
co-creating knowledge and participatory processes.

Christiane Meyer-Habighorst

She is a trained human geographer and completed an MSc in Geography of Global Change at the Institute of Environmental Social Sciences and Geography, University of Freiburg (Germany). She holds a BSc in Geography and Public Law from the University of Münster (Germany) and the University of Salamanca (Spain). She is particularly interested in the intersection of social and natural processes, especially climate change adaptation, global transformation in local contexts, justice, human health, and feminist methodologies.

In her master thesis, Christiane was able to demonstrate the relevance of incorporating social science perspectives and the recognition and participation of local citizens in planning processes to create justice-sensitive and transformative climate change adaptation at the local level. Currently, Christiane works as a research assistant at the Western Norway Research Institute and the Institute for Human Geography.
